It was nice to see more young people at the Zurich Opera Ball 2017. I thought it was a great idea for the event organizers to encourage visitors to spread the word about the ball on social media. Under the hashtag #OPERNBALLZH one can find inspiring photos from this beautiful annual event here in Zurich.
There are two types of guests of the ball: dinner guests that first enjoy the champagne and caviar and then gala dinner from the restaurant Baur Au Lac and promenade guests that join later in the evening, enjoying drinks and oysters. At around 21:30 there is a short performance for everyone to enjoy: the Zurich Opera Orchestra, opera singers and ballet Zurich entertained the guests and then according to tradition debutants open the ball in beautiful gowns and tailcoats. After the famous phrase “Alles Walzer!” (everybody waltz) everyone can start dancing.
There are plenty of entertaining things to do during the evening in different locations of the Opera house:
- Swiss casino corner with roulette, live casino online, and black jack.
- Many bars: Kronenhalle bar; Rive Gauche bar; Park Hyatt-ONYX bar
- Oysters and champagne from the famous restaurant in Zurich Brasserie Lipp
At midnight the act ABBA 99 joined the party and entertained the crowd with the world famous 70s hits, encouraging everyone to sing and dance with them.
The Opera ball in Zurich is a charity event: the proceeds flow into the education programs of the Zurich Opera house that will allow children and young people to be artistically engaged and to attend performances at the opera house.
Tickets to the event can be purchased on the website of the opera house, so be sure not to miss the glamorous Zurich Opera Ball next year!
