Stoos Funicular Railway

It was interesting to discover the high level of Swiss engineering by taking the Schwyz-Stoos funicular railway, opened in 2017 after 14 years of construction. 110° is the maximum incline that can be overcome by the Stoos railway which makes it the world record. Thanks to the automatic level compensation of the cabins passengers can always stand horizontally.

The funicular railway operates from the Schwyz-Schlattli alley station to the center of the mountain village Stoos. The ride is very scenic and takes around 7 minutes. Stoos is a car-free skiing region located at 1,300 meters above sea level.

It was great to explore winter hiking trails available, eat some typical Swiss food at the mountain restaurants and certainly to try out the steepest funicular railway in the world!
