The Opera Ball 2018 was exciting, classy fun and certainly glamorous. Camilla Nylund and Bryn Terfel presented arias duets, the philharmonic orchestra played under the direction of Simone Young and Ballet Zurich surprised with the “Flowers Waltz” from the new production “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”, choreographed by Christian Spuck.
The traditional part of the evening was the appearance of the debutant couples that also started the first waltz dance of the evening. After the official program everyone was invited to dance and have fun. There were various possibilities to enjoy the evening like:
- A champagne-lounge and live piano music in the “Spiegelsaal”
- Entertainment and culinary delights à la française and energetic salsa-rhymes in the Bernhard theatre
- Disco tunes and the Dolder Grand Bar on the main stage
- Lindt chocolate tasting, oysters and even Swiss sausages
- A Salsa crash course in the main foyer
A big raffle drawing took place at midnight. Many renowned Swiss companies offered over 500 attractive prizes (like for example a trip to Maldives to a five-start resort, a Swiss luxury jewelry-set or a romantic dinner in a famous Zurich restaurant). Proceeds from every Opera Ball edition go to the support of the education program of the Zurich Opera House for children and adolescents and to get young people excited about opera and ballet. I enjoyed myself a lot at this high-class event, and was glad to see that it attracts more young visitors every year.
