The Gornergrat Railway has been transporting adventurers from Zermatt to the majestic Gornergrat for over 125 years. It’s a journey full of history, nature, and breathtaking views of the Matterhorn.
The Gornergrat Railway invites guests to experience an unforgettable journey in a restored NostalgicChic Class carriage from 1961, accompanied by a multilingual concierge who is not only an expert on the region but also an entertaining storyteller.
The special day begins at the Hotel Monte Rosa in Zermatt with a welcome drink and Valais platter consisting of traditional cold, cured meats, cheese, rye bread, and pickles. Afterwards, guests go on a short guided tour of the old village, during which they get to know exciting facts about Zermatt.
After a smooth boarding at the valley station of the Gornergrat Railway, enchanting and majestic mountain scenery awaits during the ride, with drinks served, an exclusive mid-journey stopover for photos, and stories told by the guide throughout.
Upon arrival at Gornergrat, a 5-minute walk from the station with the guide will lead passengers to the viewing platform located behind the 3100 Kulmhotel. Here, 360° panorama views of 29 4000-meter peaks, numerous summits over 3000 meters, and the majestic Gorner Glacier can be enjoyed. At Gornergrat, it’s also possible to visit a unique photo spot: one of the three first-generation locomotives from the Gornergrat Railway has been restored, gold-plated, and prominently displayed at the summit.
Afterwards, guests board the train again and head to the 5-star Riffelalp Resort 2222 m. There, a short ride on the highest tramway lines in Europe – a special shuttle service belonging to the resort – will bring you to the Ristorante Al Bosco where a regional 4-course menu with matching wine accompaniment awaits NostalChic Class guests.
The NostalChic Class experience takes place this summer from June 26 to September 14, always on Wednesdays and Saturdays. To book, visit:
