It feels like being in a movie to sit in the lobby bar of the official guesthouse of the Swiss government, sipping a classy cocktail and looking at the photographs of such guests as monarchs, ministers, presidents, movie stars and artists.
The grand hotel Bellevue Palace is located a few steps away from the Swiss Federal Palace and is built in a neoclassic style on a terrace overlooking the River Aare and the Bernese Alps.
The hotel has 128 rooms, 24 of which are suites. The suite I stayed in impressed me by its discreet luxury, elegant furniture, comfort, cozy reading corners and a nice desk next to the large window with a “postcard” view.
For lunch or dinner, the restaurant «Vue» serves gourmet delights with traditional Swiss elegance. The restaurant has a French brasserie flair and welcomes the concept of sharing food.
“Le Lobby” bar has 99 gin varieties and during the winter on Fridays and Saturdays offers pre-clubbing drinks and lounge tunes from international DJ’s.
The legendary «Bellevue Bar» has long been famous for being the meeting place in Bern for politicians, diplomats, executives, media representatives and moviemakers. Throughout the decades, the hotel has become a setting of sophistication for screen epics about the world of espionage and intrigue.
It is very convenient to discover the city from the hotel. The beautiful Swiss capital can boast of amazing architecture. Bern with its numerous towers, fountains, cellars and arcades, is listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site and takes one to a journey through the Middle Ages.
Owned by the government, Bellevue Palace is the official hotel for guests of the state. My first ever experience of staying in a hotel of such political and historical importance was very exciting. It is impossible not to feel the unique flair of this grand hotel that witnessed so much history!
